Special music changes a nice wedding into a lovely and elegant event. Yet, planning music is one of the duties we may put off until almost too late. The reasons: we may not feel confident to judge musical ability; or perhaps we can’t even name the selections we have heard and would like performed. In truth, working with professional musicians is easy! They do all the work.
Interviewing and planning sessions are delightful when you’re dealing with professionals. It doesn’t matter that you don’t know the names or can’t hum the tunes. They help you define the sounds you like for your ceremony and reception by giving “mini-concerts”, live or on tape and videos.
A variety of options are always available: soloists in voice, piano, flute, harp. guitar, violin and cello; duets, trios and quartets; strolling musicians and keyboardists; bands specializing in old time, country, rock, big band,
ethnic music, jazz and ragtime.
You can ease the music budget by asking your ceremony or dance musicians to play during the hospitality hour and dinner. (Musicians’ “extra hour” rates are usually lower than their initial performance rate.)
Music for dancing and entertainment later in your reception is essential. Good musicians will encourage your guests to hit the dance floor with songs they can’t resist. Good music will make your ceremony and wedding reception memorable. This will be the music that will remind you of your wedding day for the rest of your life, Its important to take the time to do it right.
